Why consider Rotary?
If you believe that civic participation is an essential element in the life of a well-rounded business leader, you may wish to consider joining San Diego Rotary Club 33. Rotary includes 1.2M business and professional leaders in 30,000 local clubs worldwide who adhere to high ethical standards and the ideal of service to community. Rotary's motto is "Service Above Self." San Diego Club 33 includes 550 local business and community leaders who meet weekly for fellowship and service.

Since 1911, Club 33 has been providing San Diego's leadership with an opportunity to connect with others toward the common goal of improving the community in which we work and live, as well as the world beyond. This work is channeled through 50 committees whose projects include supporting a school for the homeless, building schools in Mexico, instructing high school juniors in the free enterprise system, providing surgical services to underdeveloped areas world-wide and much more. Weekly programs provide members with insights into the operation of City government and national agencies, local businesses, arts and culture, new concepts in technical and medical fields and little-known community treasures. Members are also kept current on the Club's projects through announcements at meetings and a weekly bulletin.

Past membership surveys have shown the following as the primary reasons for joining Club 33 and renewing membership:

  1. Opportunity to participate in significant community and international projects.
  2. Meetings are entertaining, informative and educational.
  3. Opportunity to gauge the "pulse of the City" via programs and table-talk.
  4. Opportunity to interact with San Diego's business and community leaders.

Who should consider Club 33?
A primary consideration on the part of a potential applicant should be that he/she is a participating self-starter. Note that of the 4 reasons given by members for joining, 3 are just opportunities until the member takes action.

San Diego Rotary seeks as members adults who adhere to strong ethical standards, have good reputations and have demonstrated leadership in their business and community activities. Most are engaged as proprietors, partners, corporate officers or senior level managers in a recognized business or profession. Almost all are in executive or professional positions with discretionary authority and showed some proclivity for community involvement before they joined Club 33. Members include the Presidents of, San Diego State University and the University of San Diego, senior level officers in San Diego's major businesses, partners in the leading law firms, executives and directors of fine arts institutions, top officers of City and County governmental organizations, members of the judiciary and many business owners.
